Up till today, I never really celebrated Malaysia's Merdeka Day. We sure enjoyed the holiday, but honestly after high school (where we'd had Kemerdekaan celebration; performances, games, events etc..I had to be the person-in-charge for Hari Kemerdekaan once since I was in Kelab Kewarganegaraan comittee, I still remember every single thing we did! Sighh I miss high school) every time the day comes I never really did anything or fully understand the meaning of it.

But today I stumbled upon this video about two Americans who learned Malay language and made videos about them learning the language - BelacandanPaku.

Watching their videos really humbled me. There they were; two foreigners who are so proud of speaking in Malay and talking about Malaysia when I didn't even try to understand the meaning of Hari Merdeka..so sad.

They even have Facebook page - BelacandanPaku. Even them calling each other that cracks me up! Haha. Never mind that their 'lah' is sometimes wrongly used, at least they have the guts to do the video. I can NEVER do one in Japanese..seriously, embarrassing.

My favorite is this one.

There's just something about 'Mat Saleh' speaking Malay that really gets me..hahaha.

Then when I was browsing the net reading my usual daily must-read blogs - I encountered this post by Xiaxue, a Singaporean famous celebrity blogger. She blogged about her recent experience in KL where she went for a sponsored shopping trip.

Wow. I think this is some of God's way of showing me I should appreciate my country more..or maybe because today's Independence Day and I'm so far away from Malaysia so I'm feeling a bit blues..but whatever.

I'M SO PROUD OF MY COUNTRY :) SHOPPING HEAVEN OR NOT, KL ROCKS!

Read her post, if you've lived under tempurung and still don't know where to shop in KL..hehe. But reading a review about KL from an outsider kinda opened my eyes, because we always take everything we have for granted, we should sometimes be reminded of the things we're blessed with.

Can't wait to go home even more. Monday come quick please.

Selamat Hari Kemerdekaan, Malaysia.

P/S : It's the final 10 days of Ramadan, too. May we're blessed with the opportunity to make full of Lailatul Qadr, InsyaAllah :)

This is how I spend my Sunday night. Very fulfilling.

Milky Way, Toblerone (got from the bf before he went back to Malaysia - he knows what keep me sane when I'm alone), Coke, Nescafe, keropok ikan (OMG my ultimate favorite..with Thai chilli sauce! *drool*) and a big fat box of kurma. Got another box from mum in the fridge - seriously, I don't know how I'm gonna finish them all.

Watching Gossip Girl Season 3, since I've practically spent the whole weekend having Gossip Girl Season 1 and 2 reruns. But trust me - do NOT have GG reruns when you're broke.

Having no money and having Blair Waldorf and Serena Van Der Woodsen rubbing off your face with glamorous headbands, dresses and the I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-but-it-still-looks-fabulous hair are unhealthy.

Seriously, I had tears.

So anyway, I saw GG's upcoming Season 4's pictures. You can check it out here. We're allowed guilty pleasures once in a while right?!

But my favorites are :

Chuck reminds me of Robert Pattinson here. Not good.

She's the dictionary definition of effortlessly gorgeous.

But this picture of Blair topped it all! Girl in Paris.

Can't wait for the new season to come out.

Now excuse me while I mourn over my bank account.

So it's finally happening.
I've got re-entry done today!! Only ONE week to go baby!!! Hello, Malaysia :))

(Those of you who are already in the soil of Malaysia, do NOT give sarcastic comment. Grrr.)

I went to the city to do my re-entry permit today, and managed to come by this one store I always go whenever I'm in the city. It's a brand from Korea, and sells shirts, dresses and custom-made jeans with beadings with the price ranging from 15,000-50,000 yen. Yes, just for a pair of jeans. But you should see the beadings, so so pretty.

I've never bought one, I only have a few of the shirts and this one top I bought when it was on sale.

I love going there because the salesgirl who comes from Ukraine is so nice and friendly, and the store owner too! I used to drag Sue along with me before, and Sue loves them too. I should bring my boyfriend someday, maybe I can get special discounts/offer from them for bringing in customers. Hehe.

But today when I reached the store I was surprised to see its new face - they're selling the famous Japanese gothic clothing.

(source : www.fanpop.com)

I know Japan has always been famous for this gothic street style, I've always wanted to take pictures of the stores cause their promoting style is just so brilliant - the salesgirls would wear gothic clothing from head to toe, put on Avril Lavigne-like makeup, do their hair like anime characters we see in TV and even the mannequins are so pretty. But I never get the chance to take their pictures because honestly, the salesgirls terrified me.

But FINALLY I get to see them up close!! Thanks to the nice Ukrainian girl :) She didn't put on so much gothic clothing or makeup cause she was shy. Still, she looks so pretty :)

She didn't want me to take picture of her alone. So shy.

The clothes worth 10,000 yen and above and it's not like I can wear them anytime soon, so I didn't get anything. But the accessories are so nice I had to get one.

The cheapest one they had in the store.

I think I've found the reason why my eyes had been acting out on me lately.

I can't believe I've never realized I kept this much lenses. These contact lenses are either 4//5/6 months (or even a year..) old. I should've thrown them away ages ago!

I have this bad habit of changing my lenses everytime my eyes feel weird. But since the lenses aren't even 1 month old yet, I decided to keep them in a new container.

Repeat that 5 times in a month, you get the above picture.

And I kept telling myself the lenses are still OK, only worn 1-2 times, still can wear again. But apparently I kept telling that to myself for 4 months!

Reminder : When you opened a new set of lenses, the expiry date starts right at that moment. No matter how few times you've worn them. So even if you've worn them 1 time in the period of 3 months (if the expiry date of the lenses is maximum 3 months), you cannot wear them anymore past that date.

Thank God my mum's package (with new lenses supply) arrived today!!! So happy :) THANK YOU MUM! *hugs and kisses*

Never underestimate the strength of the humanity to navigate us through hard times.

I learned my lesson today.

Today was one of those days I find myself being mute and not caring about the world; just selfishly doing my thing without any acknowledgement about the people around. And Japanese being the most common people around me at this time; I don't think they care. I was relieved. I was happy as long as I have my phone and Twitter and this blog. Surfing internet has never felt so fulfilling.

Then the shit came.

First I fell off my bicycle on the way to school - THE. FIRST. TIME. EVER. I've never had any accident before, let alone involving a bicycle! My knee was hurt, my palm was red, so did my cheek.

Then the guy in the blue shirt came, offering to help.

I had an instant urge to cry.

I've despised them all my life; and today one of them came to me with a shining armor.

Lesson : Don't fill your heart with hatred, it's a nasty feeling. If you don't like a person don't judge by hating the whole population. Something like that.

Then I reached my lab, all red and exhausted and hurt. My desk is beside my senior's, she's the only one girl among my seniors, and she has always been nice to me. As soon as she saw me she was concerned; asking why my face is all red and what happened to my hands and why my jeans have stains..instant urge to cry number 2.

Then when I was about to go home, my other senior offered to send me (he knows about my 'tragic' bicycle accident) but I just didn't feel like being in the car with him alone so I told him I'm fine.

So maybe you had a not-so-nice experience with them before, but that doesn't mean all of them are the same. Sometimes deep inside the humanity is still there; despite we being the outsiders.

I believe that if we're nice to people, they'd always be nice back to us.
If they don't, consider it as a challenge. So we can be the bigger person and learn.

Sometimes even a smile and 'hello' can make a person's day a lot brighter :)

Miss Ezzah tagged me in this post of hers.

Cets, talk about returning the favor. HAHA. Thanks Ezzah!

It's called Black and White contest, where you have to put your black and white picture and if your picture won, you'll get a prize in the form of money. So simple.

Now WHO DOESN'T WANT MONEY?? Basically the whole point of me doing this post. Hehe.

But..I can't make up my mind of which picture to choose. :/

This; because I like the people in this picture. And Soubetsukai 2010 was a good memory, despite having to bid farewell to favorite senpais. Having said that, I'm actually looking forward to ours next year! Hahaha.

This; because it was the first time I've ever posed like that. And will never ever pose like that again, because he won't stop mocking me.

So you choose!

Syikin, you're tagged! Because you're the only blogger I know who updates her blog everyday :D (It's a compliment!) And because you tagged me the last time. DO IT :)

A quick update!

We went to watch Inception last night. AWESOME movie please go watch if you haven't. Leonardo Dicaprio and Joseph Gordon, ladies.

At the theatre, we saw this poster of new upcoming Japanese manga-adaption movie, BECK. I'm no manga fan, but Mizushima Hiro is going to be the lead!

I've been watching bunch of Japanese dramas since I came here, but I don't fancy Japanese actors much, except this fella, Matsumoto Jun and Yamashita Tomohisa (Yamapi). Please don't question my taste, I really don't know why but their actings are really good (compared to other Japanese actors, I think).

He refused to be in the picture. Sigh. I need a new camwhoring partner.

I really doubt that I'd ever watch this movie, but Japan is really big on manga-adaption movies and they usually turn out pretty good - Hana Yori Dango, Zettai Kareshi, Nana etc. We'll see.

Anyway, I got a present from my other half! *cries with joy*

He really knows how to get to my heart.
It's so pretty I love it so much (being the accessories freak that I am). It's supposed to be a necklace (I think) but I'm wearing it as a bracelet instead (picture above). He said the saleslady told him it can be worn as both or even as charms.

I don't know what I did to deserve this. Thank you sayang.

His flight to Malaysia is tomorrow, and my flight is another two weeks. Right before Raya. My mum better have all the ketupat and lemang ready by the time I got home.

Back to basics

My contact lenses supply ran out last week, so I'm wearing the clear ones now. My lab senior looked at my face twice and said, "What happened to your eyes??"

She said she thought my eye color is grey, all these while. HAHA.

Everyone is going back to Malaysia, so Hiroshima is so lengang now. I HAVE ANOTHER TWO WEEKS!! I don't know what I'm going to do with all this free time..sigh..well, other than going to lab, obviously.

I've been so busy this past few days; catching up with my final year project and him coming here to spend his last few days before going back to Malaysia next week.

I know you'd think I'm so screwed, she's gonna nag about how she'd miss her boyfriend, blablabla..(remember this post? I knew I'd regret writing it)

Well, I'd be lying if I say I'm totally fine, but I'm holding up just fine. Alhamdulillah. Things are hectic right now because I have to go to lab and go home at 6 and start cooking for break fast and him being here and all. But tomorrow's weekend, which means YAY for me :)

Anyhow, I know I rambled about how my lisptick is betraying me and this summer being the worst case scenario ever; but I've found my new love.

Chanel's Rouge Coco #5 Mademoiselle lipstick.

I'm skipping the whole review cause you can read it all over the internet, but it's safe to say if you're looking for magic, this is it.

Well, for our lips that is.

This is what the ads look like. Vanessa Paradis is wearing Rouge Coco #5 Mademoiselle.

(source : stylefrizz)

In case you didn't know (like me), she is Johnny Depp's baby momma.

Anyway. You can get this for 3000+ yen on Rakuten, and you won't be sorry. I spent 1000 yen on a Maybelline lipstick and it's one of the biggest regret in my life; the texture isn't divine enough and it won't stay for even 30 minutes.

#5 Mademoiselle has the perfect combination of nude, red and pink color, rich in texture and adds elegance in everything. I used Rouge Allure #44 before, which is more to pink than red. I've always thought red won't look good on me, but all the Vanessa Paradis hype sure gets to my head - put this lipstick on and you'd feel like you're walking the streets of Paris. Sexy, vibrant and elegant.

No, Chanel don't pay me to say all this. Hehe.

Speaking of shopping, feel free to visit my friend's site - Sarah's Garage Sale.

I've always wanted to set up a preloved items blog, but I have absolutely no time at all. Trust me, final year is anything but fun.

I've always loved her taste in clothes and bags, so feel free to browse the items!

Been so busy and need a place to put up your stuffs? You can advertise your things there FOR FREE, just drop them an email or message them on the Facebook page. Seriously, for free!

Uted, you might get an email from me soon, if I failed to get my lazy ass to the nearest 2nd hand shop here and sell my old clothes.

This, is the proof that he's a Manchester United hardcore fan. AND has been trying to abuse me with his obsession.

All of the above were given by my boyfriend whenever he feels like showering me with MU stuffs. Not included in the picture (cause I don't remember where I put them..probably under my bed or something) are MU keychains, posters and magazines. I swear, this guy has a problem. He constantly buys MU things from their website and would always buy me something too, up to the point that sometimes I just wish he's into Chanel..hehe.

The 'Little Miss United' was for kids (girls), but he thought it's for girls so he bought me one, and now I don't know what to do with it. The black ManUtd shirt was for men but there's a 'RONALDO' print at the back so he gave it to me. Though of course I won't fit -_- See, you could've just bought me a Zara shirt or something..

The pink bling-ed one is actually nice! Thank God. And the jersey too.

I was arranging things in my wardrobe, and honestly I have no idea I have THIS much clothes. Seriously, Atil, you don't need anymore tops/dresses/whatsoever.

Was thinking of sorting them out according to color/long or short sleeves, but am too lazy..I'm giving up already. Anyone want to help?

My mum would kill me if she saw this.

I went to this store selling beads, textiles and sewing items yesterday to look for things to buy for my mum. I initially thought I could get her nice Japanese textiles there to make baju kurung as she wanted something 'Japanese' but I don't think I can get her any more Noritake-like plates or Hard Rock Cafe T-shirts hehe. (yeah, I gave her HRC T-shirt the last time I went back, and she's loving it! So cool, my mum)

No, I didn't find anything. The textiles there are nice, but just don't look like the ones she'd like..pfft.

BUT, the beads there are..awesome.

They sell like tons of different kinds of beads and strings for handmade accessories, and they're so gorgeous! I wanted to take pictures of them but the saleslady kept watching me. There are colorful beads, handmade accessories i.e bracelets, necklaces, rings..and some are vintage, too.

Seriously, I wonder why I've never tried making accessories before. I felt like I just died and went to heaven.

So bought some things with a thought of making one.

I've always loved the edginess of funky bracelets and charm bracelets, and if you look for the right ones (especially the ones that made of bits of old jewelry) they somehow look so vintage. They look like something you get from exotic places, which makes them even more personal and classy. Of course, colors are risky because not all bright colors can suit everyone but once you find the right colors, they can turn out to be the center point of the whole outfit.

This is my first attempt to make one, so be nice. Hehe.
It wasn't easy, I swear. But once you figure out how to start the pattern you kinda came along with it.

30 minutes later.

OK, so not that gorgeous like the ones you see in stores, BUT I MADE THIS!!! So proud :) :)

Thought of giving it to my boyfriend (I wanted to make a guy bracelet hence the black beads) but I know there's no freaking way he would wear this, so I'm keeping it.

I feel like framing it so I can show it to my grandchildrens..hehe.

Okay..so I'm one day late to wish you all this, but I was too tired to write today (read: hungry and letih and tired and hungry) so I waited till tonight.

HAPPY RAMADAN EVERYONE!!!

Semoga amalan kita diberkati Allah, insyaAllah.
May we all change for the better throughout this holy month, and be wiser in understanding the whole point of fasting.
May God bless us all.

I skipped lab today as we're supposed to start our 'Obon' holiday (Obon : Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the deceased spirit of one's ancestors) till next week, and since yesterday most of my seniors didn't come to lab I decided to start my holiday early HAHA. (We're supposed to start 'Obon' holiday tomorrow) Who cares lah kan as long as my final year project is still going.

Speaking of which, I got the equipments needed for the project and am finally able to do my jikken :) I think this is the first time I've ever felt so happy doing an experiment. Weird.

Anyway, I think I learnt a lot last night. Still upbeat from the excitement doing terawih, I was up till midnight reading numerous blogs; the ones I've encountered but never bothered to read. It started with googling about Ramadan, and discovered a lot of things I didn't know before.

I stumbled across this blog, owned by a girl suffering from cancer. She's no longer here; the lung cancer she suffered took her life and leaving this world her journal throughout the times before she discovered she had cancer, until the last post about her last checkup with her doctor. Reading her blog teared me up; it was the first time I read about a real person who could easily be any of us. She was just a normal girl like us who was living a life like ours. I can relate to most of her posts which saddened me even more.

Those of you who are reading this might know her, or her friends or relatives. She's a stranger to me, of course, but her journal inspired me a lot and gave me new perspectives about life, so do visit her blog - Maisara's Xanga.

I hope it gives you inspirations like it did to me. Really teared me up. Al-Fatihah.

Anyway, this is what I had for berbuka today.

I know. So sad kan.

In my defense, I just discovered at the eleventh hour that I ran out of onions so making chicken/meat curry/kurma/soup etc is not an option. Hence the fried rice..sigh.

Miss Syikin dropped a comment here a while ago telling me that she gave me this award.

THANK YOU SYIKIN!!! :D
(I've always spelt her name as Ckyn, now that I'm using her real name it feels weird..HAHA sorry Ckyn)

1) Thank and link the person that gave you the award

2) Pass this award on to 15 bloggers you've recently discovered and thought are fantastic
OK this is the hardest part, the reason why I took so much time doing this post. I mean, where am I going to find 15 bloggers?! Pfft. But my victims will be :
These people are my friends, but I'm nominating them because I think each of them has a unique blog that differs from others. Go check out their blogs and you'll see why :)

Hilal, in this case I'm changing it to the handsome blogger award HAHA.

3) Contact the owner and let them know that they've won the award

4) State 5 things about yourself
  • I hum/sing when I cook.
  • I hate it when people tell me to eat, BECAUSE I EAT WAY MORE than anyone I know.
  • Vintage things are my absolute favorites, even if I got them for 2 bucks from flea market.
  • I don't like soft drinks simply because I don't like the weird taste they give to my tongue. So when we go to restaurants my friends would have all those fabulous drinks and I'd have ice lemon tea.
  • I am 10% water and 90% caffeine.

Thank you Ckyn for the award! *hugs*

Looking back, I've always been a magazine junkie. Living in AAJ was such a bliss because I get my magazine supply almost every month thanks to Mid Valley and the super nice boyfriend (haha the early years..).

I can't believe I still keep the old CLEOs -_-

So last weekend I had to go to see an optometrist because my eyes are starting to itch and since I basically can't live without contact lenses, listening to the doctor saying how super-sensitive my eyes are and how I've hurt my retina (I think) by wearing lenses 24/7 and how I should eat more veggie are NOT pleasant.

But managed to grab a couple of Japanese magazines after the appointment :) The magazine shop is right next to the clinic..what's a girl to do?

I've read everywhere about the ViVi magazine which seems to win every girl's heart, but I just never really get around with buying a Japanese magazine before. Firstly, I personally don't fancy Japanese brand here - Honeys, MIX, etc..they always seem too dull and trust me, everywhere I go the smallest size would be M. I'm a XS-S so there aren't pretty much anything for me here.
Secondly , I'm a person who would spend hours reading a magazine, back-to-back - so language plays a huge role.

But boy was I wrong. The reviews are true, despite the language ViVi is simply awesome!! I love everything about it - the colorful pages, the pretty pictures, the ads..worth my 650 yen :D

And they featured Venti Anni too.

Venti Anni is now officially my first favorite Japanese brand. Found this one store selling VA shoes for 70% HAHA.

Though I must warn you, flipping through both magazines is hard - Japanese chicks in there are really, really pretty. And summer's magazines are to die for, I love seeing everything so colorful! Too bad my wardrobe doesn't consist much of a colorful dress or bikini. Hehe.
I'm still reading the magazine with a dictionary in hand, it's surprising how well you pick up the words when you read about the things you like. This skill would come in handy if I could develop the same feelings for subjects.

Anyway, this is late but we went to see hanabi last Saturday :) Had to take off in the morning to avoid the traffic so we reached there hours before the hanabi starts, you can imagine how freaking hot it was! Waiting for night to come was an agony.

But the hanabi was worth it :) Super cool.

And they're going to waterfalls tomorrow, I can't go because I have to do jikken :( I don't like final year.

my brain dump.
