Choosing A Luxury Gift for a Special Occasion : A Guide

A few days ago, I was in serious dilemma. It's my husband's birthday today, and I really wanted to give him something he'd treasure especially when he's been such a blessing to me during this third pregnancy - he handles the boys on his own cause this time around, the pregnancy experience hasn't really been a breeze. (more on that later, lol.)

Choosing a gift for someone for a special occasion can be tricky. You want to give them something they will love, yet for it to be a gift they can treasure for many years to come. Dipping your toes into the luxury gift market may seem expensive, especially when the significant other isn't really into expensive things. However, choosing the right gift for the recipient can ultimately be more than a simple present, or should be. It can be an investment for them to keep for many years in the future and even become an heirloom passed down through the family.

My husband LOVES watches. So naturally this one came to mind. Luxury watches are more than a way to tell the time. A high-end watch will have been expertly handcrafted, and not only will it tell the time, but it will be a statement piece that will last throughout the years. If you fancy giving them this, you want to be looking for high-quality brands such as Rolex, Omega, Cartier, Longines and similar. These watches will make beautiful gifts and hold their value and potentially become collector's items in the future. But for my husband, I already knew which brand he fancies, and I need to save my money for many years before getting him one haha.

This one, is for women. A classic and timeless gift you can always be sure will be met with thanks. If you are looking for a piece of jewellery that will hold its value, you want to opt for gold as this will hold its value over time and adorn it with a stunning gemstone that is high quality. I went on a rampage yesterday and went into Habib cause while thinking of things to get my husband for his birthday, I thought of getting a gold bracelet for my new baby, too.

Guess what? Didn't buy the bracelet. Didn't buy any present for my husband either.

Again, like watches, many gemstones will not only hold their value but can increase over time, depending on the stone you choose. Hearts and arrows diamonds are becoming more popular, but when choosing your stone, you want to make sure you know what you are looking for when it comes to the quality and how each stone is graded. The fewer imperfections a stone has the higher its grade, and the more expensive it will be, making it a perfect item to hold for many years to come.

Designer bags

This one..should've been my number one in this list haha. If you've looked in the blog's archives, it should be familiar to you. Designer handbags are becoming more and more popular when it comes to investment collections. High-end designers such as Louis Vitton, Gucci, Chloe and more are all designers with stunning handbag collections that will be the perfect addition to any fashionistas wardrobe.

These bags have excellent resale value should you wish to sell and upgrade in the future when new collections are released or ideal for adding to an investment collection or to admire for years to come. Though I wish I could sell my old ones - they have so much sentimental values to me.

Another one top of my gift-giving list. High-end skincare can be expensive to upkeep. Indulging in the best products in the market to be able to look at your skin can help to keep their skin in its best possible condition and allow them to pamper themselves and nourish their skin all at the same time.

If you have extra budget, look to brands such as Dior, Chanel, Charlotte Tilbury, and more to create a personalised skincare gift that will be practical and usable. Or add to the luxury skincare gift by adding in a spa session or facial treatment at a high-end clinic for the ultimate in pampering treatments. Parkson usually have these packages - you can get them to give you some discounts for your next purchase too.

When all else fails, and you're certain your significant other isn't really into expensive stuff, getaways are always a nice treat for them to spend their time in luxury. If they're not materialistic, then they almost always appreciate some me-time for themselves to do something for themselves - so look for nice hotel packages for them to spend a weekend - maybe one that comes with a spa package. Who doesn't like a nice, hotel stay-in?

When it comes to buying luxury gift items, it pays to do a little research beforehand to make sure you are gifting something they will like and won't end up as an expensive ornament hidden away in a closet. As for me, I have settled on one thing I think my husband would appreciate - shall update you more on that (soon!)
