Gift Ideas for Special Occasions

When it comes to gifts, I used to be one of those people who were really clueless on what to give to the person. That was why I just hate the occasion - when my sisters would get my mom all sorts of things they KNEW she would love, I was still scratching my head and would hide in my room, detesting them. That's not fair, I thought, there should be a list where we could all get and make her happy instead of relying on personal experience and taste.

But over the years, I think I'm progressing well in this department. I would even get some of my colleagues and friends stuff on their birthdays; something I rarely do out of my own insecurity that they won't like it. And that's improvement to me!

However, gift-giving isn't one to be avoided especially when special occasions roll around all the time; engagements, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, leaving events, and many more. If you're close to someone it's a nice gesture to give them a gift they will cherish for some time to come. But it can be challenging to choose the perfect gift for the occasion and sometimes you run out of ideas, like me. If this is your issue too, I've learned throughout the years on how to improve:

Leaving Gifts

Do you have a colleague leaving for a new job or a friend who's decided to move to a different country? You'll want to get them a suitable leaving gift that's meaningful and that they will remember for years to come.

You could buy them a high-quality notebook or journal where they can record their adventures. This is my personal experience - one of my colleagues and I enjoy using journals and would often share our love for it, so I got her a personalized journal I knew she would love. The best thing is, it will also remind them of home as journaling is most loved hobby of a homemaker. A personalized gift such as a pen or necklace is also a good idea – choose something that's practical as well as meaningful.

Engagement Gifts

You get to that stage of life and everyone seems to get married at once. You can't buy the same gift for all your friends and relatives but you've run out of unique ideas they will appreciate.

For someone really close, the perfect engagement gift is meaningful and unique. Use a diamond clarity chart to find the ideal stone, or, you can think of a special time you spent together and choose something more general. A personalized glass token or a symbolic candle with the couple's name on it would also make a perfect gift, something they can use to decorate their new married home.

Housewarming Gifts

The housing market is difficult these days and it can be hard to get on the ladder if you want to buy your first home. That's why it's extra special when one of your friends gets a new home for their family, and it is definitely one of major life milestones to be celebrated!

Mark the occasion with a special housewarming gift such as a plaque, picture frame, personalised cushion, candle, or coasters. Try to think of something that can contribute to the new home without being intrusive.

Back to School

When it's time for your kids to go back to school it's a good idea to get them a small gift. After having my own kids, I've learned that going back to school can be stressful and unpleasant for them and a small gift can help lift their spirits and motivate them.

When choosing a back-to-school gift for your children try to select something that is relevant to their studies or their school lifestyle. It might be a new school bag, some new stationery, perhaps a new lunchbox or notebook. Try to make the gift special and exciting, and ones they would enjoy for years to come.

Good Luck Gifts

There are several reasons why you might want to buy a good luck gift for a friend or relative. They might be changing their job, starting university, attending a driving test, or moving to a new city or country.

Mark the occasion with a special gift (linked) they will fondly remember. I actually found the website really helpful in finding unique gifts for our loved ones. If your friend is changing jobs why not get them a gift box with flowers in it, for university you could get them a personalized pen, and for a re-location you could get them a framed map of where they come from.

Hope you found some ideas for gifts! Putting this here for my future reference too😁
